LUCENA CITY – Seven persons, three of them are kids, sustained firecracker-related injuries before and during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Quezon province.

In a report issued Wednesday noon, Jan. 1, the Quezon health office said the victims were in the towns of Candelaria, Sampaloc, Atimonan, Tiaong, Lopez, and San Narciso and Lucena City during their monitoring from Dec. 21 up to the morning of New Year’s Day.

Five of them suffered burns from the firecracker’s explosion while two sustained eye injuries.

The injuries of four of the victims were caused by boga (an improvised cannon made of PVC), two were caused by kwitis, and another one was caused by “5-star.”

The victims are all males. Three of them are 1 to 10 years old, two are 11 to 20 years old, and two belong to 20 years old and above category, the police said.

The Quezon police also reported the seizure of 362 pieces of boga and 1,593 pieces of assorted firecrackers worth P65,380 during their operations from Dec. 18 to 30.
